Why I Run FBR - Laura Stillabower

I’ve always loved running since I started in college as a way to keep in shape. It gets me outside, reduces my stress and I get that runners high you always hear people talking about. I rarely time myself though and just go as fast or slow as feels good on any particular day.

In the summer of 2017 I told my friends I was thinking of buying a house in Fishtown and one them shared that a friend Josh was part of a great running group in the neighborhood called the Fishtown Beer Runners and that I should check it out. I ended up buying that house, but was feeling a bit unsettled after moving.  I decided to throw on my sneaks and head to Palmer Park to see if joining FBR could help make my new house feel more like a home and it sure did.

From that first night when David ran up beside me and shared the history of the club I could truly tell that it doesn’t matter if you take the long route or the short route or if it takes you 15 minutes or 45 or if you just head straight to the bar - FBR is happy to have you.

FBR is a group that welcomes everyone into a running community that makes us all better off than if we had done our running and drinking solo. From a clean up of Palmer Park to raising funds for multiple charities to pulling together a crew of volunteers for the Fishtown Festivale to giving its members a platform(or bench) to drum up support for their passions and causes,  FBR has accomplished a lot. And I really like being a part of that.

But FBR isn’t the only running group in town - I’m also in Rock n Run, but it’s easy to do both. At the all city running events when I’m sporting my Rock n Run singlet it’s great to see my fellow FBR runners, have some friendly competition and cheers to a fun time had by all afterwards.

Looking forward to the next run with FBR!
