The Legend of the FBR Wild Turkey Run
The Wild Turkey Run is more of a ritual than an actual beer run. It began a long, long time ago, in a neighborhood far, far away (Queen Village), by FBR Anthony LoCicero and Leonard DeProspo. They were alone on Thanksgiving evening in the New Wave Cafe taking the “responsible” out of the FBR slogan, “Responsible running and drinking in the interest of science”. There were no witnesses to confirm what actually occurred on that cold November night, and Anthony and Len are so old they can't even remember their own names. This is all we know about this strange ritual.
Here is how it works:
1. Start at New Wave Cafe at 8:30 PM (3rd & Catherine Streets)
2. Drink a shot of Wild Turkey
3. Run to Broad Street and strut around and do turkey calls in the median.
4. Run back to New Wave.
5. Drink another shot of Wild Turkey. Proceed on your own.
The only requirement is that all runners and drinkers must exhibit awesome facial hair (real or fake) to honor the millions of turkeys who made the ultimate sacrifice for Thanksgiving. Did you know that what looks like a beard on a turkey’s chest is really a bundle of special long, thin feathers? Adult males and even some females have beards but scientists don’t know what, if anything, they’re used for.
Bottom line: Two shots, two miles, and crazy facial hair. No RSVP is necessary, this is a run I’d do even if no one showed up! Note: Run begins and ends at New Wave Cafe (not at the usual start locations)
